Today's Doctor of Chiropractic is
well educated. The science of chiropractic requires a special
emphasis on anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology,
biomechanics, X-ray, spinal adjusting techniques and related
subjects.
Before beginning
Chiropractic school, chiropractic students need to complete 2
to 3 years of undergraduate education to obtain the necessary
prerequisites. A chiropractic student then completes 4
years of graduate school to receive a Doctor of Chiropractic
degree. Each candidate must then pass
both National and State board examinations in order to
receive a license to practice chiropractic. After
receiving their license, doctors continue to further
their education by taking postgraduate courses and stay current by reading the latest
scientific research.
This demanding curriculum prepares chiropractic
doctors to adequately examine and diagnosis health care
problems, treat those conditions that are
within their scope of practice, and refer patients to other
healthcare providers when
appropriate.
After undergraduate studies, today's
chiropractic doctor completes an additional
four-year
curriculum of close to 4,300 classroom hours of health
sciences.
